A Sense of Continuity in Mortality? Exploring Science-Oriented Finns’ Views on Afterdeath

Endorsement of science might entail a belief in “secular death”, which an individual faces annihilation as the bodily functions cease. In this article, we examine what science-oriented individuals think happens to humans after death. Does endorsement views on human or do people also express continuity beliefs? The open-ended responses 387 Finns were analysed. respondents recruited online via organisations that promote and research. results suggest while mainly endorsed secular death, some expressed (mostly nonreligious) continuation, e.g., social bonds nature. Secular forms more likely mentioned by unbelievers, theist relied primarily afterlife beliefs.
